Using a Data Factory Integration Runtime (IR)

A Data Factory Integration Runtime (IR) is infrastructure used by Azure Data Factory to provide data integration capabilities across different network environments.

It provides a scalable and secure way to transfer data between on-premises and cloud data stores, and between cloud data stores. The IR can be deployed within a virtual network to securely access resources in private networks or in the cloud.

The IR comes in two modes, self-hosted and azure-hosted. Self-hosted IR runs on customer-managed infrastructure and allows access to on-premises data stores or file servers. Azure-hosted IR runs in the cloud and provides access to Azure services. An Insight Factory supports one or more self-hosted integration runtimes.
